Q: How does purchasing a gun in Illinois work?
A: First you must obtain a Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) Card through the Illinois State Police. Once you have the card in your possession you may browse and handle the firearms in our inventory. Our sales team can help you narrow the choices. Once you find one (or more) you like we initiate the buying process by filling out a form 4473 required by the ATF and putting down a deposit. The state of Illinois requires a holding period of 72 hours from the time of purchase before the firearm can be brought home. Meaning you must leave and come back after your time of purchase has passed three days later. After this time you have 30 days to come in and pay off/pick up your firearm. On the second visit we have an associate go over your purchase with you ensuring you are getting the correct gun and that all serial numbers match the paperwork. We will also answer any questions you may have and set you up with any ammunition & accessories you may want.
Q: How do I get a FOID Card?

Q: Do you offer gunsmithing/repair services?
A: Yes we have a team of gunsmiths on staff with over 30 years experience. We can handle most repair work as well as a number of other customizations such as installing night sights, mounting/boresighting/sighting in optics, and we even work on bows/crossbows.
Q: Do you offer transfer services/accept transfers for purchases from other dealers?
A: Unfortunately that is not a service we currently offer. We do accept special orders on items we do not carry though, so we might be able to get what you are looking for straight from it's manufacturer.
Q: Do you buy used guns?
A: Yes, we do! Bring what you are looking to sell into the store for an appraisal and receive an instant offer you can take as a check or use as a trade credit. We charge a $5 appraisal fee for guns not originally purchased at J.R. Shooting Sports which is refunded if the firearm is sold. Appraisals can be done any time the store is open, walk ins welcome.
Q: Do you offer on site storage for firearms?
A: Yes, Keep your firearm safe and have it waiting for you at the range. 12”x12”x14” Lockers available for rent at only $20 per month. Long gun storage also available for only $25 per month.
Q: Do you allow children?
A: Yes, anyone below the age of 18 must be under direct supervision of a parent or guardian at all times when in the store. When visiting the range a one parent to one child ratio must be maintained at all times. No children below the age of 10 are permitted in the range.
Q: Do you deliver the large gun safes that you sell.
A: Yes, we offer in house placement and driveway drop off options. Our team uses professional stair climbing equipment. Contact us for a quote today, prices range depending on safe size/weight and delivery location. Alternatively, if you can handle the unloading at home, we are more than happy to help load the safe into a pick-up/van here at our store free of charge.
Q: I need to fly my firearms on a commercial airliner, can you help me obtain the case/lock that the TSA requires?
A: We sure can! We keep all the best gun storage solutions in stock and our sales team can point you in the right direction.
Q: I need to send my firearm back to the manufacturer for warranty work, can you help me with the shipping/paperwork?
A: Yes, if requested to do so by the manufacturer. You should initially contact the manufacturer directly to get return authorization and to see if our services are needed. Many manufacturers will simply email you a shipping label directly and you can avoid having to pay us to ship it.
